Autophagy inhibitor. Oleoyl-L-a-lysophosphatidic acid sodium salt (OLA) is a fatty acid that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It binds to the cell surface and inhibits the production of growth factors, thereby inhibiting cell proliferation. Oleoyl-L-a-lysophosphatidic acid sodium salt has been shown to inhibit the growth of human cancer cells in vitro by binding to tryptophan fluorescence. The gene product for OLA is expressed in stem cells and its dry weight is approximately 0.5%. Oleoyl-L-α-lysophosphatidic Acid reduces the organ injury caused by endotoxemia in the rat. It may be useful in the treatment of shock of various etiologies.
