-70°CBovine Pituitary gland is a pinkish gland is located at the base of the brain in the sella tursica of the sphenoid bone. It is composed of a large anterior lobe and a smaller posterior lobe.
Bovine animals 1 year or older, mixed breed and mixed gender. The tissue is collected on wet ice and frozen within 2-6 hours at -20°C. Individual tissue weight approx. 1.5-2 grams.
Specification:
Individually frozen whole glands must be free of blood clots, base portion of connective tissue (pad), bone chips, and other extraneous tissue.
Preparation:
1. After the operator splits the skull, remove the pituitary by clipping it away from the pad that anchors it and trim any excess tissue. The gland should then be placed immediately into a container of dry ice. The glands should be stirred occasionally and removed to the freezer to prevent clumping.
2. After they have been in the freezer and completely frozen the operator should shake or lightly hit the glands to free them into individual pieces.
3. They can be placed in a box (catch weights are acceptable). All boxes should be labeled with product description, weight, and time of collection or shift collected from.
Yeild:
Glands from 160 animals will yield approximately one pound.
Trim:
Extraneous fat and tissue levels must be no higher than 5% to 10%.
Extraneous tissue cannot be out past the circumference of the gland.
Storage and Stability:
Long-term storage is recommended at -70°C.
