The WI-38 human diploid cell line was derived by Leonard Hayflick from normal embryonic (3 months gestation) lung tissue.

Homo sapiens, human Lung Fibroblast Adherent Normal diploid Female, Caucasian, 3 months gestation fetus AddexBio-formulated EMEM (C0005-01) + 10% FBS Subculture sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) at 1:2 to 1:4 ratio, using 0.25% (w/v) Trypsin- 0.53 mM EDTA solution. Culture at 5% CO2, 37°C.
