Human cardiac paraffin tissue sections are formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) histological specimens widely used in cardiovascular research to investigate the cellular, structural, and molecular alterations associated with normal cardiac physiology and cardiovascular disorders. Prepared from anatomically defined regions of the heart (e.g., atria, ventricles, interventricular septum, valves, or, when available, specialized conduction tissue), these sections preserve native tissue architecture and provide excellent long-term morphological stability for archival storage. FFPE cardiac sections are extensively used in histopathology, biomarker discovery and validation, translational cardiovascular research, and retrospective studies based on archived clinical specimens. Although formalin fixation induces protein and nucleic acid cross-linking, optimized tissue processing and antigen retrieval protocols enable histological analysis, immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), in situ hybridization (ISH), digital pathology, selected FFPE-compatible spatial transcriptomic and spatial profiling platforms, and molecular analyses of DNA and fragmented RNA recovered from FFPE tissue.
