-20°CSambucus nigra Lectin (SNA/EBL I) is an isolectin isolated from elderberry bark and purified by affinity chromatography. SNA I belongs to the group of type 2 ribosome-inactivating proteins and is composed of an A-chain with enzymatic activity and a B-chain with carbohydrate-binding activity. It has specificity for alpha2,6-linked sialic acid residues, and elutes with the sugar lactose. SNA I can induce apoptosis through the caspase-dependent pathway at low concentrations. This effect depends on the carbohydrate binding of the B-chain and is independent from the catalytic activity of the A-chain.
Source:
Elderberry
Blood Specificity:
A > B > O
Sugar Specificity:
Sialic Acid
Inhibitory Carbohydrate:
Lactose > beta-Galactose
Divalent Ions:
Ca++ Mn++
Activity:
Agglutinates animal and human erythrocytes. The lectin has a slight preference for type A over B and type O erythrocytes.
Storage and Stability:
Lyophilized and reconstituted products are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile buffer or ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
