Rat cDNA

Rat cDNA (complementary DNA) is a DNA copy of RNA molecules derived from Rattus norvegicus biological samples and generated by reverse transcription. Because cDNA is derived from RNA rather than genomic DNA, it provides sequence information corresponding to transcripts present in the starting sample, including coding regions from protein-coding transcripts and sequences from non-coding RNAs. cDNA is widely used in molecular biology to support gene-expression analysis, transcript characterization, sequencing, and cloning.

Rat transcriptome studies have identified substantial tissue-associated transcript diversity and alternative RNA processing, supporting the use of rat cDNA resources for transcript and functional genomics research. However, cDNA representation can be influenced by RNA input, primer selection, reverse-transcriptase activity, and other experimental factors, so it should not be considered an exact quantitative representation of the original RNA population.
