Vivaflow ultrafiltration (UF) concentrators are benchtop tangential flow filtration (TFF) systems designed for efficient concentration and diafiltration of biological samples ranging from 100 mL to 1 L. They are ideal for process development in both bioprocessing and research laboratories.
TFF Technology
Unlike dead-end centrifugal filters, Vivaflow® employs crossflow (tangential) flow, where the feed moves parallel to the membrane surface (shear rate 3,000–6,000 s⁻¹), sweeping away retentate to prevent fouling and gel polarization. This sustains flux over liters of sample. Hydraulic optimization through thin channels (0.8–1 mm) and flip-flow paths accelerates processing—for example, 1 L of monoclonal antibody (mAb) at 10 kDa can be concentrated in under 1 hour.
Biochemical Applications
Vivaflow® systems are widely used in bioprocessing for hybridoma supernatant concentration (20x in 30 min), virus harvesting from HEK293 cultures, and nanoparticle isolation from environmental samples. In formulation development, PES and RC membranes are tested for biologics stability, while R&D teams scale diafiltration for buffer exchange in vaccine production.
