Cord blood

Cord blood

Umbilical cord blood is a well-characterized source of neonatal hematopoietic and immune cells that is widely used in basic, translational, and preclinical research. It contains hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs), endothelial progenitor cells, mononuclear cells, and diverse immune cell populations, including T cells, B cells, natural killer (NK) cells, monocytes, and dendritic cell precursors. Compared with adult peripheral blood, cord blood exhibits a distinct cellular composition and an immunologically immature phenotype, making it a valuable model for investigating hematopoiesis, immune development, stem cell biology, transplantation, regenerative medicine, and gene and cell therapy.

Key Features

  • Rich Source of Hematopoietic Stem and Progenitor Cells : Contains abundant CD34+ hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) with high proliferative and clonogenic potential.

  • Diverse Neonatal Immune Cell Populations : Includes T cells, B cells, natural killer (NK) cells, monocytes, and other immune cell subsets relevant to immunological research.

  • Unique Neonatal Immunological Profile : Exhibits an immunologically immature phenotype that supports studies of immune ontogeny and neonatal immune responses.

  • Established Research Resource : Widely used for investigations of hematopoiesis, stem cell biology, immune development, transplantation, and regenerative medicine.

  • Broad Experimental Compatibility : Compatible with flow cytometry, primary cell culture, molecular biology, genomics, transcriptomics, single-cell analyses, and functional assays.

Common Research Applications

  • Stem Cell Biology : Research on hematopoietic stem cells, progenitor cell biology, and regenerative medicine.

  • Immunology Research: Investigation of neonatal immune development, immune cell function, and immune ontogeny.

  • Cell and Gene Therapy : Development and evaluation of gene-editing, gene-transfer, and cell-based therapeutic strategies.

  • Transplantation Biology : Studies of hematopoietic transplantation, immune reconstitution, and graft biology.

  • Multi-Omics and Biomarker Research : Genome editing, single-cell sequencing, transcriptomics, biomarker discovery, and preclinical assay development.
