Webinar Overview

For over a century, formalin has been the gold standard for histological fixation, preserving tissue morphology effectively. Yet, its toxicity, carcinogenicity, and poor nucleic acid preservation in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues are critical drawbacks.

Enter GAF fixative, a patented breakthrough by Addax Biosciences. GAF delivers superior structural and molecular preservation without the health risks of formalin, paving the way for safer, more effective diagnostics.

An open-label, non-inferiority, multicentric trial was performed comparing fixation of histological specimens with GAF fixative vs standard phosphate-buffered formalin (PBF), evaluating the morphological and immunophenotypic preservation and the diagnostic value. The results proved the non-inferiority of GAF as compared to PBF for all organs tested (breast, colon, lung, endometrium, and prostate cancers) and highlight the capability of GAF to ensure both structural preservation and diagnostic value of the preparations.

  • Morphology:  GAF matches PBF in tissue structure preservation.
  • Immunophenotyping:  Comparable diagnostic accuracy for immunohistochemistry.
  • Diagnostic Value:  GAF equals or surpasses PBF performance.
