LB Broth is a nutrient broth that is used for cultivating fastidious organisms. It contains the following ingredients: peptone, yeast extract, sodium chloride, and magnesium sulfate. The optimum concentration of LB Broth is 1.0%. The Lennox LB Broth has been shown to be effective in vivo as an intracellular calcium buffer in a mouse model. It also has been utilized in structural biology experiments to study the interaction between penicillin-binding protein (PBP) and nuclear DNA. LB Broth has been shown to regulate transcriptional levels of genes encoding effector proteins by binding to PBP. This mechanism of regulation has been observed in human serum and t84 cells.
